Deer Park, New York-based Costello’s Ace Hardware has acquired Delta Lumber of Whiteford, Maryland.
Delta Lumber’s longtime owners, David and Kathy Galbreath, who have led the business since 1979, have decided to retire, leading to the sale of the business. The business has been serving the community for more than a century.
A message from David Galbreath to customers on the Delta Lumber web site reads: “Costello’s Ace Hardware shares the same family values as Delta Lumber and we anticipate a smooth and efficient transition. With this change will come fresh ideas and a store that will continue to be a credit to the community.”
According to Costello’s, the store will recite a major remodel, and the branding will transition from “Delta Lumber” to “Delta Lumber Ace Hardware.” The store had been operating as a Do it Best locations.
The store provides an extensive selection across various departments, including lumber, building materials, electrical equipment, hand and power tools, hardware, heating and cooling, home and outdoor living, lawn and garden, outdoor recreation, paint and supplies, and plumbing.
With this acquisition, Delta Lumber becomes Costello’s Ace Hardware’s 51st location
As previously reported, Costello’s Ace is engaged in an ambitious growth plan to expand from about $180 million in sales in 2024 to some $375 million in sales by 2030. Acquisitions are expected to play a key role in the company’s growth.

Costello’s Ace Hardware, founded in 1973 by Vincent Costello. Its 51 locations are in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia.
