METABO HPT T-PWR MULTIVOLT TABLESS BATTERIES – WHAT’S INSIDE
Metabo HPT promises these new batteries to be a nice step up in performance compared to standard MultiVolt batteries, utilizing 21700 cells and tabless connections.
Conventional batteries have one or two internal tabs for energy transfer. When tabless technology comes into play, electrical resistance is significantly reduced, allowing more power to flow directly into the tool. This leads to as much as 50% more power compared to standard lithium-ion batteries, according to Metabo HPT. That’s a claim we’ve seen echoed by other manufacturers who offer tabless packs.
While this technology isn’t brand new, Metabo HPT is the latest brand to offer tabless technology in its lineup. We’ve seen it from Milwaukee’s Forge batteries, followed by Ryobi and Ridgid in 2024. DeWalt also jumped on board with its PowerPack batteries and Makita recently announced its own 40V max XGT High Power batteries.
Tabless technology lends itself to lower running temperatures, ensuring your battery stays cool, even during demanding applications. Practically, that means you can push your tools harder without worrying about the battery overheating.
They also get a much longer service life. Metabo HPT claims that the 381991M battery operates up to 100% longer than the brand’s standard batteries.
Tool Compatibility
As far as which tools are compatible with these new batteries, there are no changes. You can use the T-PWR MultiVolt Tabless Batteries on any of your current Metabo HPT 36V and 18V MultiVolt tools.
METABO HPT T-PWR MULTIVOLT TABLESS BATTERIES PRICE
These new batteries are currently available at your preferred Metabo HPT retailer for $199 (4.0Ah 36V / 8.0Ah 18V). Metabo HPT backs your purchase with a 2-year warranty.
Let’s put that in perspective. A standard Metabo HPT MultiVolt 4.0Ah battery is currently $169. So, you get all the benefits we’ve discussed and it’s only a $30 premium. That’s compelling.
SHOULD YOU BUY IT?
If you’re a Pro who uses Metabo HPT cordless tools, adding these tabless batteries to your tool box is about as no-brainer as it gets. Twice the service life with higher performance at an ~18% premium pays for itself.
This isn’t a compact battery, though. Running 8.0Ah at 18V and 4.0Ah at 36V, this isn’t my top choice for lighter tools like the Triple Hammer Impact Driver. Instead, use it for the track saw, plunge router, rear handle saw, or other powerful cordless tools.
